To answer a few questions…It’s a 6″ utility knife, a 3 qt. pot, and the book is called “The Cooking Club Cookbook.” I think these products are great, this set sells for [$$$] at other stores and would be worth every penny. I’ve owned it for a month now and it is the best pot and knife I’ve ever owned. Be aware that there are at least two different versions of this set available, the other contains an 8″ square tray instead of the knife, and an additional utensil.

This set is everything I thought it would be and more! The skillet is nice and deep and the knife has a great weight to it. It is my first piece of Calphalon cutlery, and I am hooked! I can’t wait to get more. It’s an incredible value, and the spoon and cookbook are just icing on the cake. If you are considering this as your first Calphalon purchase, I highly recommend it! It’s a nice sampling of Calphalon’s reputation.

First off, I don’t have this set, although I do have a Contemporary Nonstick 2.5 Quart pot (which I paid more for than this set). I may be a simpleton, but I was under the assumption that the whole Contemporary *line* of pots was designed the same (which makes sense since they are named Contemporary and they make up a line of pots). If this is true, I can’t see how the other reviewer could clean their pots in such a way as to chip the paint off the lid. They would have to be a magical cleaning genie to do that, because there is no way one can reach the ‘paint’ if it even is paint. Looking from the the bottom of the lid there is glass, and a little rim, there is no way to get to the ‘paint’. From the top, there is also no way to get to the ‘paint’. So if the reviewer would reveal how in the heck they even got to the alledged paint I would sleep much better at night. Because if magical cleaning genies exist, then surely a magical mess making genie could also exist, and I would be fearful to live in a world like that.

I also bought this set plus 3 other open stock Contemporary in Oct 2003. 3 of the 4 lids, the black came off. I noticed that the fourth lid had the black between the glass and the steel, so it did not come off. I contacted Calphalon and they said the first few runs off the production line had the black on the wrong side of the glass. They have fixed the problem now. I was able to take my lids into a BB&B store and looked through many boxes until found newer lids with the fix in place. So I exchanged 2 of them. The lid for this set is still outstanding, of which Calphalon says they will send to me. I hope. I wish Calphalon One was available last Oct as I would have purchased this set. Other than this problem, the cookware is great. So if you buy this product, just be sure to check the lids and see that the black is inbetween the glass and the metal rim. If you can feel the edge of the black with your finger nail, then you need the new lid design.

I bought this on a whim, and I’m impressed! The knife is drop forged (NOT pressed), and the saucepan/lid are all metal & glass. It is very solid, and I didn’t notice any paint that could flake off (as other posts have mentioned).

The spoon is good to 400^f, and they even throw in a hip cookbook to get you started (“sex in the city” meets “good eats”). Although this is targeted at cooking beginners, every item included has become my favorite.

This is this is one of the best pans I’ve ever had. It’s really non stick. It cooks everything to perfection. I cook anything in it that will fit. An omlet or pancake will slid right out of the pan. Puddings will cook fast with hardly any watching or stirring. Clean up is a cinch with hot soapy water. Often you can just wipe out the pan. I bought several other pans and found all I really needed was this one.

I bought this set about 9 months ago- I was going to be getting married soon and moving into a new apartment, my fiancé and I needed a good pot for pasta, beans, etc.

This pot is probably our most used piece of cookware, we use it all the time for pasta, soups, beans, sauces, etc. The non-stick surface holds up well- although it would be nice if this set came with a non-stick compatible whisk…

I have no complaints about this product, but if you care about the outside appearance of your pots- know that the Calphalon non-stick pots and pans (Calphalon contemporary, one, classic, etc.) have outsides that stain easily when they come in contact with liquids while cooking (oils, sauces, etc.) It doesn’t bother me, but just a forewarning.

The Chef’s knife is great- we have a full faberware knife set, the calphalon chef’s knife, and 3 Henckles knives- the calphalon is right in between the faberware and henckles when it comes to quality.

The spoon is great, too- although we haven’t used the cookbook.

I would definitely reccommend this set- it’s also a great wedding gift or a good gift for someone moving into an apartment for the first time (or just moving in general).

I just bought this set on clearance at Linens and Things for 24.99 plus another 20% off with a coupon. Brought the total to 19.99 and that is cheaper than the price of the chef’s knife alone. The knife alone retails for 27.99. Check your local Linens and Things before ordering this.
